A Black Day for Code Red

After Delyth McLean's fantastic show in Merthyr's New Crown Inn (more to follow), I got chatting to Code Red frontman Craig Thomas. Craig is the nicest guy in the known universe, and if you've ever found yourself watching a gig in the Crown, chances are that you've met, talked to, and then put the world to right with Craig. Today, however, marks the end for Code Red, and with it, the opening of a sizeable hole in Merthyr's live music scene.

I saw the boys and gal tear up The Crown not too long ago, and to an impressively large audience. It's very difficult not to have a blast when Code Red are entertaining - and I use that word specifically, 'entertaining'. Code Red differ from many other bands you see traipsing the circuit; they were performers of the highest order. They'd throw out party tunes mixed with rock classics, send audiences chanting with their versions of can't-help-but-sing-along numbers, all wrapped up in a high energy, vest-laden show. These were the qualities that made them a known force in the live music community, and a definite loss to the Merthyr music scene.

But alas, life, the universe, and indeed everything, can get in the way of living the dream. After cancelling the last of their highly-anticipated shows, I hope we haven't seen the last of the Code Red Crew. It's cruel to keep them off stage for too long.

What was their sound?

Think 70's and 80's rock. Then think 'Ooooooooooh OOOOOOOOH Oooooooooh' Use Somebody catchy melodies and round it all off with more energy than a lit firework.
