Delyth McLean: Lost in Sound? Yes. Completely.

Delyth McLean is a lady on a mission. With frequent radio interviews, sessions and tracks being floated across the airwaves, it's fair to say she isn't afraid of a little hard graft. At this year's Dim Swn Festival, she caused quite a stir with her first full-band performance, despite her relatively early slot in the day. Last night, at The New Crown Inn, she swapped the wooden stirrer for a full-on ladle, and did more than just cause a storm in a teacup.

Delyth dished out sweet, soulful melodies and thundering, grab-you-by-the-face choruses by the bucketful. A real maturation has taken place in Delyth; from playing solo slots in small clubs to having a band of up to 5 at her disposal, she has really expanded in captivating every new audience at every new opportunity.

Despite having the extra horsepower behind her sound, she places her accompanists sparingly and carefully. The result is delicately crafted symphony; Delyth's voice conducts, and her band follows diligently. There is a delicacy in her songwriting that is often lost under a crash of distorted guitars, bellowing bass and hammering drums, but she has pulled it off with utmost expertise. Along with harmonies that only family or close friends could understand, Delyth McLean is a real force to be reckoned with.

Keep an eye out. With backers such as the Young Promoters Network and Amy Wadge (of Ed Sheeran fame), there is no end to this young performer's possibilities. Watch this space, she'll be sent into the stratosphere before you know it.



What's her sound? 

Think delicate, folk-esque choral harmonies, then think of a blues-induced Etta James. Place on top of that a healthy portion of sassy, jazzy, groovy, soul and you're nearly there.
